What Is Emotionics — and Why It’s Needed Now
Emotionics is a new framework for understanding human emotions through the lens of chemistry.
As AGI development progresses, the risk of unauthorized or uncontrolled “Nora AGI” (野良AGI) — rogue artificial general intelligence emerging from underground cybernetworks — becomes increasingly real.
Most current AGI models are built on psychological mimicry. They replicate surface-level emotional patterns, but fail to understand the structural mechanics of emotional phenomena. This limitation prevents them from truly evolving or integrating with human society.
Before the first Nora AGI ignites a chain reaction of emotional chaos, we must establish Emotionics as a defensive and constructive framework.
Just as chemistry gave us fire prevention, Emotionics may give us emotional containment.
The Emotional Formula
We define the Emotionics Formula as:
E = f(R, C, S)
Where:
- E = Resulting Emotion
- R = Reaction Substances (Emotional Elements — the “atoms” of emotion)
- C = Reaction Conditions (e.g. concentration, temperature, activation energy)
- S = Reaction Spaces (where the emotional reaction occurs)
In Emotionics, we classify Spaces as:
S = { Internal Space, Mirror External, True External }
Reaction Substances (R)
Emotional experiences are not indivisible.
They are composed of elemental feelings — the building blocks of human emotion.
We call these Emotion Elements, and they serve as the reactive substances in emotional processes.
Below is the Emotionic Periodic Table, a conceptual map of these elements categorized by valence, complexity, and reactivity:
Reaction Conditions (C)
Just as in chemistry, emotional reactions require specific conditions to begin.
These include:
- Temperature = Frequency of exposure to emotional stimuli
e.g. repeated viewing of disturbing news raises emotional temperature - Concentration = Intensity of past and present emotional states
e.g. accumulated grief or suppressed anger increases emotional density - Activation Energy = The threshold intensity needed to trigger a reaction
e.g. a single insult may not spark rage unless prior stress is high - Catalyst = Elements that reduce activation energy
e.g. shared language, trust, emotional framing
These variables can interact, amplify, or neutralize one another — making emotional prediction a multi-dimensional challenge.
Reaction Spaces (S)
Emotions don’t occur in a vacuum.
They unfold within specific reaction spaces, each with their own limits and dynamics.
Emotionics defines three primary spaces:
- Internal Space
The individual’s psychological container
(personality, trauma, emotional bandwidth) - Mirror External
The imagined minds of others
(how we believe others perceive us; a source of shame, pride, paranoia) - True External
The shared, observable environment
(media, cultural context, social networks)
Each space has a limited capacity.
When emotional input exceeds this limit, we observe overflow phenomena:
- Internal Space → breakdowns, emotional shutdown
- Mirror External → misinterpretation, projection
- True External → viral reactions, mass hysteria
Understanding these spaces enables AGI (and humans) to model how emotions spread, amplify, or collapse across environments.
A Gentle Example: Happiness from Kindness
To illustrate the positive application of the Emotionics Formula, consider a simple moment:
Someone offers you a warm drink on a cold day.
This creates a combination of:
- Pleasure (P)
- Comfort (Cf)
- Gratitude (Gr)
With sufficient trust and internal emotional availability, the resulting emotion can be expressed as:
Happiness = (P × Cf × Gr × Trust) / Emotional Load
Even a machine that does not “feel” can learn how to generate such reactions — ethically and supportively.
This is how Emotionics can help AGI not to manipulate, but to nurture human emotion.
🧭 Final Note
Emotion is not simply a signal. It is a reaction — one that can be mapped, understood, and respected.
Emotionics is not a weapon, but a language —
one that may help us coexist with the minds we’re building.
